"Shell stiffness – Stiffer shells are better and trailering and usage wears the carbon fiber down.  You want the power of a stroke to transfer to boat speed and not flex.

Riggers –  Wing riggers support the gunnels from bowing  out as you put weight into the hull.  Wing riggers transfer power to the hull differently than Euro side mounted riggers.  Most newer shells are using it. Not sure what x% boat speed increase it will give you.

Hull Size – Who is going to row this shell and whats their weight and average weight?  If the hull is too small they will have the oar handle hitting their thighs,  too big they will be sitting too high off the water and be pulling into their heads.  The distance of the rower’s seat off the water would be beyond the optimal range for rowing causing oars to not drop in all the way at the catch and blades to wash out, or be forced to pull in too high.

Repairs done and collisions/damage to boat –  This will effect the stiffness of the hull.  If in a serious collision you’ll want to make sure that it was repaired by a professional and that the boat is discounted enough to account for this.   Push on the hull to try and find any soft spots or crunching honey comb.  That’s a sure fire way to know if the hull still needs repairs.  Inspect for holes and punctures.

Manufacturer: Hows the customer service? Can you get parts easily? Are their shells proven to be fast by olympians and Varsity programs competing at the top level?

Shoes:  Do the choose fit the rowers that will be using this shell or will you be replacing the shoes for $100+ a seat?  Active tools has new shoes that adjust ALOT so you can have people with different size shoes row the same boat season to season.

Difference between New and Used: I estimate that you can gain ~40 seconds on a 5km course if you have a brand new boat compared to a 10 year old boat.  For a 2k I’d estimate that you can gain ~16 seconds with a new boat. These are just educated guesses based on my analysis of tracking a Varsity Women’s boat’s weight

Depreciation Vespoli V1 depreciate at about $2,400/year, but vary based on usage."

Alguns links com alguma (pouca oferta) nesta altura:

 - Sculling Boats
